Pricing Policy and Conditions 2007

2007 Institutional Pricing Policy

Our pricing policy has changed for 2007. Oxford Journals will continue to offer the following subscription options for individual title purchase by institutional subscribers, but with both the Online-only1 and Print-only2 options offering a 5% discount:

  • Standard Institutional Subscription - Print with Online Subscription* A Standard Institutional Subscription includes a combined print subscription with site-wide online access to the title.
  • Online-only Institutional Subscription(1) Site-wide online-only access is available at a 5% discount off the Standard Institutional Subscription rate.
  • Print-only Institutional Subscription(2) Print-only subscriptions are available on request at a 5% discount off the Standard Institutional Subscription. This will entitle the customer to receive a print copy of each issue of the title for the calendar year.

*Online access for items 1 and 2 above include:

  • IP registered access across a single site (multi-sites may contact us to negotiate an extended license)
  • Access to full-text in HTML (where available) and PDF - current contents, plus online back issues from 1996 where available
  • Remote access allowed via secure proxy
  • Inter-library loan
  • Archival access to paid-for content - See the OUP Institutional Site Licence for full details.

A full institutional price list is now available in a printable format. We also offer options for the purchase of our current and archival (pre-1996) content by collection online, see Collection sales for further information

Exclusions to the 2007 Institutional Price Policy

  • Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society

These titles will include access to the complete digitised archive with each online subscription.

  • IMA Journal Applied Mathematics
  • IMA Journal of Management Mathematics
  • IMA Journal of Mathematical Control & Information
  • IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis
  • Mathematical Medicine and Biology – A Journal of the IMA
  • Teaching Mathematics and its Applications

The above 6 IMA titles will not follow our standard model for online only subscriptions, but will offer discounts in excess of 5%.

Open Access

Nucleic Acids Research - Open Access in 2006 Nucleic Acids Research (NAR) will continue with a full ‘Open Access’ (OA) publishing model in 2007. The online edition will be completely free of charge and the journal will be funded by institutional memberships, print subscriptions and author charges. Customers will continue to require a subscription to receive NAR in print.

To support NAR’s Open Access model in 2006, institutional subscribers will have 2 options:

  • Institutional membership: - single site. NAR institutional membership secures substantially discounted publication charges for corresponding authors based at the member institution. A print subscription is not included in institutional membership. Multi-site memberships are also available.
  • Print subscription: Institutions will require a print subscription in order to receive print copies of NAR. A 2007 institutional print subscription will not include institutional membership.

Both options are available via subscription agents and directly from Oxford Journals. A further communication detailing the renewal procedures for agents will follow. More information about the new model, and frequently asked questions can be found at our NAR help pages.

Titles without an online-only subscription

The online-only rates have been removed for the following three titles, as online-only subscriptions will continue to be unavailable for 2007 (although online will still be available as part of a print subscription). This is because, on some occasions, we will not be able to obtain perpetual licenses to display enough of the illustrations within articles to justify the independent existence of an online-only version. The online version will provide useful 24/7 access to the full text of the journals, but will exclude the majority of the illustrations which will only be found in the print version.

  • Journal of Design History
  • Journal of the History of Collections
  • Oxford Art Journal

Free Online Access

The following titles will be freely available online in 2007:

Evidence Based Complementary Medicine. This has been made possible by the generous support of Ishikawa Natural Medicinal Products Research Center (INMPRC)

Additions to the 2007 Institutional Price Policy

Journal of the National Cancer Institute
Oxford Journals will be changing the pricing model for JNCI in 2007. JNCI will no longer be offered online under a tiered pricing model by institution size, based on FTE (Full Time Equivalents). The journal will also no longer charge a higher rate for print subscriptions outside of the US and Europe. Instead, the cost of an online subscription will be a flat rate of $634 / €634/ £423. Likewise, a print only subscription will be the same rate of $634 / €634/ £423. A combined print and online subscription will be $667 / €667/ £445. Under this new pricing and distribution model, JNCI will now be offered to libraries under the same model as most other Oxford Journals.

We are pleased to announce that the new rate will be a price decrease for our formerly large and medium online subscribers. However, institutions that were formerly categorized as small, as well as some print subscribers, will see an increase at this new rate, ranging from between 14% and 24%. While this increase is significant, we are confident that you will find our new rates to be comparable and often significantly less expensive than most comparable journals in the field.

Oxford Open

Since the launch of our optional open access model in July 2005 the number of participating journals has grown to approximately 50 journals, with new journals continuing to opt in. This model is based on a system whereby published authors are offered the option to pay for research articles to be freely available online immediately on publication. Discounted author charges are available to authors from institutions with a current online subscription, and authors from developing countries.

The subscription prices of 3 journals (Bioinformatics, Carcinogenesis and Human Molecular Genetics) have been adjusted for 2007 to reflect how much original research material was made freely available in the first phase of the initiative.

Online Access and Collections

Access to articles from 1996 are normally available via a current subscription. In order to view content prior to 1996, access to the Oxford Journals digital archive is required. Alternatively, short term access on a pay per article basis is available.

Online Archive

April 2006 saw the launch of the Oxford Journals Online Archive marking the completion of the mammoth task of scanning and indexing every back issue of journals to make them available electronically. The Online Archive is already proving to be a huge success.

Access to articles published from 1996 onwards is normally available via a current subscription. In order to view content prior to 1996, access to the Oxford Journals digital Online Archive is required. Alternatively, short term access on a pay per article basis is available.

The Archive has been divided into subject-based archives (electronic backfiles) which are available for outright purchase or subscription. The archives contain the content of each participating journal from Volume 1, Issue 1 up until the end of 1995.

The complete archive includes all journals in the subject-based archives (with no duplication of content). Purchase of the complete archive represents a saving of over 50% on the total purchase price of the individual archives. Further information can be found at: http://www.oxfordjournals.org/access_purchase/archives.html.

Online Access Administration

Customers can now set up and manage access, IP data and usage statistics from one user-friendly account. The My Account link is visible in the top right hand corner of every page of our website. Moreover, this feature has two carefully designed versions - one for institutional subscribers and another for individual subscribers, both of which make accessing and organising our content as simple as possible.

More details of this feature are available at: http://www.oxfordjournals.org/jnls/register/.

Our content is also accessible via a selection of gateways including SwetsWise, EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service, OCLC Electronic Collections Online, Ingenta, Minerva etc. Please ask your subscription agent for further details or contact Oxford Journals Customer Services.

Publishing Ahead of Print

For Oxford Journals that have full-text articles online, in all cases the online issues are published before or at the same time as the print. However, there are several titles that offer 'Publish Ahead of Print' or 'Continuous Publication' services, which result in journal articles appearing online several weeks ahead of print. Details of such services are available at the relevant Oxford Journal home pages.

Collection and Consortia Purchasing

We offer a range of purchasing options for our online collection & subsets for individual organisations, multi-sites and consortia Contact our Collection Sales team.
