Site Features
The Journal of Experimental Botany publishes high-quality primary research and review papers in the plant sciences. These papers cover a range of disciplines from molecular and cellular physiology and biochemistry through whole plant physiology to community physiology.
Full-length primary papers should contribute to our understanding of how plants develop and function, and should provide new insights into biological processes. The journal will not publish purely descriptive papers or papers that report a well-known process in a species in which the process has not been identified previously. Articles should be concise and generally limited to 10 printed pages.
JXB publishes Review Articles on a regular basis. JXB reviews should be scholarly articles; Not only should they summarise relevant information, but they should add value to current knowledge through constructive academic criticism, informed insight or well considered foresight. Review authors are encouraged to use illustrations, particularly if such illustrations could become useful teaching aids or research models. Reviews should generally not include previously unpublished data. All review articles pass through the same refereeing process as regular articles and the response time to first decision can be expected to match the journal’s target of 28 days.
The Reviews Editor welcomes offers of review articles in any area of plant science. Authors are encouraged to send a brief outline of the article to the Reviews Editor for consideration before preparation of a full manuscript. Reviews are also j.exp.bot@lancaster.ac.uk for consideration before preparation of a full manuscript.commissioned, often as collections which may be associated with scientific meetings, and published as Special issues. Smaller collections form Focus Sections in regular volumes of the journal.
Opinion papers that express a particular point of view on a controversial topic relevant to any aspect of plant science are also considered. Outlines of Opinion Papers should be submitted to j.exp.bot@lancaster.ac.uk for consideration before preparation of a full manuscript.

SITE ACCESS
Any Visitor can:
- access to full text of articles older than one year;
- register to receive the electronic table of contents and personalised research alerting through CiteTrack
- access themed collections of review articles (TexBot) and articles included in the "Plant Culture" section;
- browse the Archive: Abstracts are available from 1996; Full text from 1997 (pdf format).
- Purchase full site access to current articles on a 24 hour basis.
As a Subscriber you have access to all mentioned above PLUS:

JXB Advance Access:
Manuscripts are posted online weeks before their appearance in the printed issue. Advance Access articles are available online as soon as they are approved by the authors. Therefore, JXB Advance Access and the printed version of an article are identical. Advance Access articles are in PDF format and releases will take place fortnightly.
SITE FEATURES
Advance Search: When searching for an article click on "Searching across Multiple Journals" and benefit from expanding your search to all or selected HW journals; search by DOI (unique Digital Object Identifier assigned to all electronic articles); limit your results and view them in two different formats.
Your Search Results indicate what full-text is accessible for free, via subscription or pay per view.
Select an article from your search and view a graphical representation of the articles citing or cited by that article. This 'Citation Map' shows you the most highly-cited articles directly related to your selected article. The map is based on the references found in the full text articles of the HighWire-hosted journals
InterJournal linking
Full-text free links are automatically created from JXB reference list to any article published in a journal affiliated with HighWire Press (American Journal of Botany, Annals of Botany, The Plant Cell, Plant & Cell Physiology, Plant Physiology, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Science). Similarly, interjournal links allow users of other HighWire Press journals to easily access JXB articles without subscription barriers.
Note: Full-text of cited References to other HW-hosted journals is free of any subscription control.
eToCs and CiteTrack
Register to receive by email the JXB electronic Table of Contents or notification that a new issue has just gone online. Signed in with CiteTrack to receive by email whenever new content in your selected journals is published. You determine which journals should be covered, and the alerts are sent whenever new content matches criteria based on the topics (keywords/subjects of interest), authors (individuals whose work you are following) and articles (when a paper of interest is referenced by another paper or letter) you want to track. Including content put online in PubMed. You do not need a subscription to benefit from these features, just register to receive the information.
Access to site for non-subscribers:
Non-subscribers can access current articles in JXB by purchasing 24 hours access. Please note that access will be provided from the computer from which the access was purchased and it is per article. Remember that you do not need a subscription to view full-text articles older than one year.
