Advance access
What is Advance Access?
Advance access means that articles are published online ahead of being included in a print issue. OUP operates two models: one where the accepted manuscript is published online (Model A), and a second where the unpaginated typeset article is published online (Model B). As a rough estimate, approx 80% of our journals operate either Model A or Model B advance access.
The service is free, (i.e. there is no extra charge), but the papers are accessed in exactly the same way as current issue content: i.e. it is accessible to subscribers only. You can view advance access papers from a journal homepage before they are in the current issue by clicking on the “Advance Access” link under “Read this journal”. See e.g. http://afraf.oxfordjournals.org/papbyrecent.dtl
Once the article moves into the published issue it then appears underneath view current issue, but remains labelled as Advance Access with the date that it was first published online. See the current issue of African Affairs for an example of this: http://afraf.oxfordjournals.org/current.dtl.
Note that although the paper moves on the site, it retains the same DOI number.
