Oxford Journals reinforces global presence with representative office in China

28 March 2007

Oxford Journals, a division of Oxford University Press (OUP), is maintaining its longstanding commitment to maximizing the global dissemination of high quality academic research by opening a representative office in China. This marks the organization’s increased commitment to strengthening the support of scholarship across Asia. Oxford Information Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of OUP, was established specifically to further academic communication and market research, and will provide Oxford Journals with local facilities and expertise in China.

While OUP has had a presence in China for many years, this is the first time there has been dedicated academic journals support in the region. In addition to the obvious benefits of a local presence in the Chinese market, the new arrangement will enable Oxford Journals to continue to strengthen and develop relationships with leading Chinese researchers and societies.

Oxford Journals already publishes on behalf of several Chinese societies and research institutions, including the Chinese Society of International Law (publishing the Chinese Journal of International Law), and in 2006 launched the Chinese Journal of International Politics: the English translation of China’s first peer-reviewed journal of international studies, in association with Peking University Press and Tsinghua University’s Institute of International Studies. Oxford Journals sees the growth of such relationships as key to increasing the dissemination of important Chinese research to the global scholarly community, and further initiatives are due to be announced over the coming months.

Martin Richardson, Managing Director of Oxford Journals, commented: “scholarly research in China continues to flourish, and the prospects for further development in the region are excellent.

“As a leading scholarly Journals publisher, and part of the world’s largest university press, OUP is ideally positioned to bring the highest quality Chinese research to a global audience.”

As part of its commitment to building relationships in this region, Oxford Journals will be hosting a two-day conference today and tomorrow in Xi’an, China: Developing your library collection – an international perspective. Further information can be found online here.
