2012 Cover Competition Winner
Each year, the British Journal of Aesthetics holds a competition open to students on full-time undergraduate or graduate courses at art and design schools or faculties in any country to design a cover for the journal. The winning entry showcases the distinctive style of the artist, while remaining consistent with the series of covers as a whole.
This year we received over fifty entries. The winning design graces the October 2012 Special Issue on Art and the Senses. It was submitted by Katerina Bortsova, who is a graduate student at the Kharkov State Academy of Fine Arts. The runners-up were Mary Roberts, a graduate student at Clemson University, South Carolina, and Mohd Shahrudin, a graduate student in the Department of Architecture and Allied Arts in the University of Sydney. The judges greatly admired all three elegant and ingenious designs, and were delighted by the overall quality of the entries.
We were very fortunate that Britain’s leading graphic designer John Morgan agreed to serve on the panel of judges. We are also very grateful to Oxford University Press for sponsoring the competition.
Next year's competition will be announced in January. We look forward to seeing more great entries!
