Chair, Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics
The Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University seeks applications from scholars of international reputation for the position of Chair, Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CE&B) is research intensive and its research and educational activities are increasingly influential in international healthcare and policy.

CE&B is regularly ranked first in research dollars awarded per full-time faculty member and third in total dollars awarded to departments in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Department faculty members enjoy international recognition for their ground-breaking research into the nature, prevention and management of health care problems. The research is frequently interdisciplinary, spanning the health and social sciences and attracting high quality graduate students and research staff to a collegial and collaborative atmosphere that breeds success. The department is home to the internationally recognized Masters and PhD Health Research Methodology Program that attracts applicants from all over the world, and to the Community Medicine Residency Program that, with its focus on public health, disease prevention, health promotion and protection, is in high demand. The department also contributes to other graduate and professional programs (MD, Nursing, Rehabilitation Science, and Bachelor of Health Sciences) and to faculty development programs.

The department currently has 42 full-time and joint faculty, more than 40 associate faculty members, 40 part-time faculty, more than 175 staff and in excess of 100 graduate students.

The Chair will be a key member of the McMaster multidisciplinary team and will direct and lead the research and education mission of the department, therefore the candidate is required to have a track record of academic excellence and research prowess. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

Reporting to the Dean and Vice-President, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, the Chair is accountable for the administration of the department including the application of faculty and university policies to the department, curriculum, appointments, and nominations to committees. The Chair will be a member of the Council for the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and the Executive Committee of the Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and will contribute to discussions of faculty-wide issues.
