31 March 2008Director for the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Environmental Medicine, and for the Population Sciences Program New York University (NYU) Medical Center is seeking a Director for the Division of Epidemiology, Department of Environmental Medicine, and for the Population Sciences Program, NYU Cancer Institute. This position is available immediately.
Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D., Dr. P.H. or equivalent degree in epidemiology, public health or a related field; academic credentials consistent with appointment at the associate or full professor level; expertise in both cancer epidemiology and environmental epidemiology; strong track record of external funding; capacity for leadership in a multidisciplinary setting.Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of externally funded research and to lead the Population Sciences program of the NYU Cancer Institute. The candidate will also be expected to foster collaborative research within the Department and among academic departments. The candidate will lead the doctoral training program in Environmental Health Sciences (Epidemiology track). Mentoring of junior faculty and graduate students and a small amount of teaching is expected.
Professional environment: The Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Environmental Medicine conducts research in cancer, occupational/environmental health, respiratory and cardiovascular disease, and HIV/AIDS. The Department of Environmental Medicine has 44 full-time faculty in five divisions: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Human Health and Exposure Assessment, Molecular Carcinogenesis and Toxicology, and Systemic Toxicology.
. The NYU Cancer Institute is an NCI-designated cancer center with extensive research programs in basic biological sciences, clinical research, and population sciences. The Epidemiology Division also
collaborates with various centers at the School of Medicine, in particular the NIEHS Center, the General Clinical Research Center, and the Center for AIDS Research.
