About the Journal
Annals of Botany is an international plant science journal with editorial offices in Australia, China, Japan, Mainland Europe, UK and USA. It is published monthly in both electronic and printed forms with at least one extra issue each year that focuses on a particular theme in plant biology. The Journal has an ISI Impact Factor of 2.448 (2006) and is managed by the Annals of Botany Company, a not-for-profit educational charity established to promote plant science worldwide.
The Journal publishes full-length research papers, short communications, invited and submitted review articles and book reviews. It also publishes 'Botanical Briefings'. These are short commissioned reviews that appear in both printed and electronic forms and that are accessible electronically free of charge. All papers in each issue are summarized briefly in ContentSnapshots and a selection is reviewed in more detail in ContentSelect. A rigorous review process ensures that readers are exposed to genuine and novel advances across a wide spectrum of botanical knowledge.
The Annals of Botany Company is a Limited Company registered in England No. 78001 at University of Exeter, Innovation Centre, Rennes Drive, Exeter EX4 4RN, UK, and is also a Registered Charity, No. 237771.
FEATURES OF IMPORTANCE TO PROSPECTIVE AUTHORS
Annals of Botany welcomes papers in all areas of plant science. These include those applying molecular, analytical, mathematical and statistical techniques to examine topical questions at any level of biological organization ranging from cell to community, from tissue culture to crop production, and from microclimate to ecosystem. Its scope extends to all flowering and non-flowering taxa, and to taxonomic and evolutionary questions particularly when these are addressed using molecular tools.
Annals of Botany does not levy page charges, provides electronic reprints and 25 hard copy reprints of each article free of charge, supplies a complimentary printed copy of the issue to each corresponding author and makes no charge for colour plates where these carry useful information or enhance clarity.
The reviewing process is highly demanding, leading to a rejection rate that is approximately 70 % and rising. Manuscript evaluation times vary but decisions on peer-reviewed papers typically take approximately 4–5 weeks. Upon acceptance, the title of the paper, authorship and a contact e-mail address are listed electronically under AOBFirstAlert. Subsequently, a full text PDF is posted electronically, under AOBPreview, up to 6 weeks ahead of final publication. The minimum publication time from submission to final publication is currently 5-6 months.
