Rheumatology plans to publish a themed issue dedicated to the impact of rheumatic disease on the world of work.
Why this topic is significant
Rheumatic disease plays a major role in the loss of productivity in the workplace and places a strain on national economic resources. Musculoskeletal disease is a major cause of work disability and results in many work days lost per annum, having a direct impact on employers. As well as the impact on employers, the disease affects the individual’s ability to work, resulting in a cost to society as well. The impact on the home and family can also not be underestimated, particularly as rheumatic diseases often predominate in women.
