Instructions to authors
Christian Bioethics is a non-ecumenical, interdenominational journal exploring the content-full commitments of the Christian faiths with regard to the meaning of human life, sexuality, suffering, illness, and death within the context of medicine and health care. The Journal seeks to be fresh, novel, and controversial by taking the content of Christianity seriously, while critically assessing how different Christian faiths and different policies authentically realize that content with respect to bioethical issues. This non-ecumenical approach to Christian bioethics, guided by the usual secular scholarly standards, offers a forum for the extended and vigorous exploration of issues at the interface of theology, moral theory, and health care.
Abbreviations
Ensure that the use of abbreviations is clear, and each one is defined in the text at its first mention only.
Acknowledgements
Acknowledgements and details of support must be included at the end of the text before references and not in footnotes. Personal acknowledgements should precede those of institutions or agencies.
Authorship
The authorship of the paper should be confined to those who have made a significant contribution to the design and execution of the work described.
Book reviews
Publishers submitting books for review should send them to the Managing Editor, address below. Reviewers should include full publishing details including the ISBN and publisher/location.
Ethics
The Christian Bioethics expects that authors will observe high standards with respect to publication ethics. For example, the following practices are unacceptable: (1) falsification or fabrication of data, (2) plagiarism, including duplicate publication of the authors' own work, in whole or in part without proper citation, (3) misappropriation of the work of others such as omission of qualified authors or of information regarding financial support. Allegations of unethical conduct will be discussed initially with the corresponding author. In the event of continued dispute the matter will be referred to the author's institution and funding agencies for investigation and adjudication.
Oxford Journals, publisher of the Christian Bioethics, is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the Journal strives to adhere to the COPE code of conduct and guidelines. For further information see http://www.publicationethics.org.uk.

Licences
It is a condition of publication in the Christian Bioethics that authors grant an exclusive licence to Oxford University Press/The Journal of Christian Bioethics, Inc. This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently and will also allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. As part of the licence agreement, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that the Christian Bioethics is acknowledged as the original place of publication and Oxford University Press as the Publisher.

Printed offprints may be purchased in multiples of 25, 50, and 100. Rates are indicated on the order form which must be returned with the proofs.

Printed offprints may be purchased in multiples of 25, 50, and 100. Rates are indicated on the order form which must be returned with the proofs.
Reprints can be ordered by authors after an issue has been published. They are twice the cost of offprints.
Orders from UK will be subject to a 17.5% VAT charge. For orders from the rest of the EU, we will assume that the service is provided for business purposes, please provide a VAT number for yourself or your institution and ensure you account for your own local VAT correctly.
Permissions for illustrations and figures
Permission to reproduce copyright material, for print and online publication in perpetuity, must be cleared and if necessary paid for by the author; this includes applications and payments to DACS, ARS and similar licencing agencies where appropriate. Evidence in writing that such permissions have been secured from the rights-holder must be made available to the editors. It is also the author's responsibility to include acknowledgements as stipulated by the particular institutions. Proofs
Authors are sent page proofs by email. These should be checked immediately and returned to the publishers by annotated PDF, email or fax (further details are supplied with the proof). It is the author's responsibility to check proofs thoroughly.

Submissions should be e-mailed to the Managing Editor or saved on a CD and sent to the editorial office by post. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors’ names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied.
Please note: This journal does not accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents at this time. Please use Word's "Save As" option to save your document as an older (.doc) file type.
Tables
All tables should be on separate pages and accompanied by a title, and footnotes where necessary. The tables should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals. Units in which results are expressed should be given in parentheses at the top of each column and not repeated in each line of the table. Ditto signs are not used. Avoid overcrowding the tables and the excessive use of words. The format of tables should be in keeping with that normally used by the journal; in particular, vertical lines should not be drawn. Please be certain that the data given in tables are correct.
VAT Charges
Orders from the UK will be subject to a 17.5% VAT charge. For orders from elsewhere in the EU you or your institution should account for VAT by way of a reverse charge. Please provide us with your or your institution’s VAT number.
