Information for Authors
The Community Development Journal covers community development, seen as political, economic and social programmes which link the activities of people with institutions and government. It aims to develop theory and practice, to compare experience internationally, and to place policies, programmes, methods and practice in their political, economic and social context. Issues covered from this standpoint include, for example, community action, village, town and regional planning, community studies and rural development.
Articles of between 3,000 and 6,000 words, letters, news items and 'Fieldnotes' up to 1500 words are invited. Submitted articles should include a word count. Authors should avoid sexist or racist statements. An article should make it clear to readers at or near the beginning why it is worth reading, summarizing the main argument and explaining its political and strategic significance. Authors should also remember they are writing for an international readership and should avoid jargon, clichés, acronyms and complicated construction. Articles are reviewed by at least two referees.

Contributions are accepted on the understanding that they constitute original work, and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication without prior permission.
Authors receive four copies of the journal. In the case of two or more authors, a total of six copies will be sent to the first-named author. Reviewers receive one copy of the journal.

It is a condition of publication in the Journal that authors assign copyright to Oxford University Press. This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently and will also allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that the Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication, and Oxford University Press is notified in writing and in advance.

Particularly if English is not your first language, before submitting your manuscript you may wish to have it edited for language. This is not a mandatory step, but may help to ensure that the academic content of your paper is fully understood by journal editors and reviewers.
