Jonathan Michie joined the University of Oxford in April 2008 as President of Kellogg College and Director of the Department for Continuing Education. His previous appointments include Professor of Management at the University of Birmingham where he was Director of the Business School and a member of the University Council and Investments Committee. Prior to this he was Head of the School of Management and Organisational Psychology at Birkbeck College where he held the Sainsbury Chair of Management. With a background in economics, Professor Michie has held senior academic posts at the Universities of Cambridge, London, Birmingham and now Oxford. Before moving into academia he was an Expert to the European Commission in Brussels and before that was in the Economic Department of the Trades Union Congress. Jonathan holds a first class Honours degree and a Doctorate from the University of Oxford, Balliol College, where he was awarded an Open Entrance Scholarship. He also received a Master's Degree with Distinction from Queen Mary College, University of London.
Professor Michie holds a number of other positions, including Director of Mutuo (a think tank funded by the mutual sector), a Council member and Chair of the Audit Committee of Acas (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) and National Committee member and Treasurer of the Association of Business Schools. Recent publications he has co-written include ‘Business Strategy, Human Resources, Labour Market Flexibility, and Competitive Advantage', 'The Corporate Governance of Professional Football Clubs' and ‘Labour Flexibility and Innovative Behaviour'. Jonathan edited ‘The Handbook of Globalisation’ and ‘A Reader’s Guide to the Social Sciences’. He also co-edited ‘Systems of Production: markets, organisations and performance’.
