Quantz's Quatuors and other works newly discovered - November 2003
In the November 2003 issue of Early Music (pp. 484-505) Mary Oleskiewicz presents the first positive identification of 'several quartets for transverse flute' which, in an autobiographical letter the composer and flautist Johann Joachim Quantz reports as being among his output. Oleskiewicz's has discovered the six lost quartets for flute, violin, viola and continuo by Quantz and offers insight into the provenance and style of these virtuosic works, which reveal Quantz as a master of counterpoint.
