NCCAM Celebrates 10th Anniversary
2009 marks 10 years since the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) was established by Congress. We will be celebrating 10 years of rigorous research with a series of events and materials
Resources for Researchers Pause in Probiotics Research.
NCCAM is instituting a pause on acceptance of applications that propose clinical studies using probiotics. NCCAM is already investing substantial resources in probiotics for clinical application. We will continue to fund novel and significant research on probiotics. However, until results of the currently funded clinical studies are available, many applications in this area are likely to be considered of relatively lower program priority.
Botanical Research Centers Program
The Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) plan to continue the Botanical Research Center Program for another 5-year period. ODS and NCCAM invite proposals from both new applicants and currently funded centers.

Upcoming Events NCCAM Advisory Council To Meet
The National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is scheduled to meet on February 6, 2009, at the Neuroscience Building in Rockville, Maryland. The public is invited to attend the open session when Dr. David Eisenberg will present a perspective on NCCAM’s 10th anniversary.
Summit on Integrative Medicine and the Health of the Public
This meeting will take place February 25–27, 2009 in Washington, D.C. It will explore the science and practice of integrative medicine health care that addresses together the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of the healing process for improving the breadth and depth of patient-centered care and promoting the nation's health. Sponsored by the Institute of Medicine and the Bravewell Collaborative.
Stephen E. Straus Distinguished Lecture in the Science of CAM
On March 10, 2009, Dr. Sherwin Nuland, Clinical Professor of Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine and National Book Award winner will present Chinese Medicine, Western Science, and Acupuncture. This inaugural lecture of the Stephen E. Straus Distinguished Lectures in the Science of CAM will be presented by NCCAM and supported by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health with generous funding from The Bernard Osher Foundation.
