New NIHR Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre
Foundation Chair (Ref: 09111/JO)
Reader/Senior Lecturer in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging (Two posts)
(Ref: 09112/JO)
With NIHR support of £5.45m Barts and The London (NHS Trust and the School of Medicine and Dentistry) are creating an internationally leading edge Advanced Cardiac Imaging Centre offering multi-modal imaging. This will offer state-of-the-art infrastructure (new 1.5T 32 coil MRI, an NIHR funded CT scanner under procurement and access to 64 slice PET/CT). This is complemented by £24.7m investment in a new Heart Research Centre adjacent to the new £312m St Bartholomew’s Hospital Heart Centre. This Advanced Imaging Centre will be a key facet of our new NIHR Biomedical Research Unit and translational research programme facilitating detailed characterisation of new therapies developed at the William Harvey Research Institute (http://www.whri.qmul.ac.uk/) within clinical studies amongst the diverse community served by Barts and The London NHS Trust Cardiac Services. See http://www.whri.qmul.ac.uk/publications/NIHR.pdf for the scientific background.
The imaging centre will serve our large patient base from East London and will be located adjacent to our 24/7 Heart Attack Centre (800 primary angioplasties last year) and our routine interventional cardiac practice (2700 percutaneous and 1500 surgical revascularisations per year). In addition there is an extensive electrophysiology and heart failure practice.
The Chair and Reader/Senior Lecturer will be offered an Honorary Consultant Contract with Barts and The London NHS Trust with 10 Programmed Activities.
You will be accredited in relevant specialities e.g. cardiology, radiology or nuclear medicine. We encourage applications from international or UK applicants with a strong research track-record from any of the advanced cardiac imaging modalities.
