ILAR Journal 60th Anniversary Virtual Issue

Welcome to this special e-issue of the ILAR Journal, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research. ILAR, a part of the Earth and Life Studies Division of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, has played a key role through the preceding six decades in providing information and resources on a wide variety of topics related to laboratory animal science and welfare to scientists, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees, laboratory animal veterinarians and pathologists, and regulators in the U.S. and around the world. The papers selected for this special e-issue come from issues of the ILAR Journal published in the last decade, and are meant to provide the reader with a taste of the depth and breadth of subjects covered by the journal. All back issues of the ILAR Journal can be found at the ILAR Journal homepage.

This year marks the beginning of a new decade for ILAR, including recent recognition by the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) as the very first OIE Collaborating Center for Laboratory Animal Welfare and Science, which will bring change and opportunities for the organization in the years to come. We are also excited about the new partnership that ILAR has forged with the Oxford University Press, with whom we have partnered for the publication of the ILAR Journal. We hope that readers appreciate the new look of the website and, as always, encourage all feedback on matters related to the journal.
