REFERENCES
The Harvard system of references, giving the surname of the author(s) and year of publication in the text, should be used. Each listed reference should begin with the authors' surnames followed by initials, the year, and the title of the work. Then, for a journal article, the journal name (abbreviated in accordance with Mathematical Reviews), volume number, and inclusive page numbers should follow, while, for a book, the title, the editor (if applicable), the place of publication, and publisher should be stated.
COPYRIGHT/OFFPRINTS
It is a condition of publication in the Journal that authors assign copyright to Oxford University Press (“OUP”). This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently and will also allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in publications provided that the Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication, and OUP is notified in writing and in advance. Upon receipt of accepted manuscripts at Oxford Journals authors will be invited to complete an online copyright licence to publish form.
Please note that by submitting an article for publication you confirm that you are the corresponding/submitting author and that OUP may retain your email address for the purpose of communicating with you about the article. You agree to notify OUP immediately if your details change. If your article is accepted for publication OUP will contact you using the email address you have used in the registration process. Please note that OUP does not retain copies of rejected articles.
Offprints: The publisher will supply free electronic access to the corresponding author of an article when it is published online. Printed offprints may be ordered at extra cost using the Oxford Journals Author Services site. You will be sent a link to this site by the production office once your paper has been accepted.
Orders from the UK will be subject to the current UK VAT charge.
For orders from elsewhere in the EU you or your institution should account for VAT by way of a reverse charge. Please provide us with your or your institution’s VAT number.
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION
Submission of manuscripts in LaTeX
For submission of TeX manuscripts, Mathematical Medicine and Biology strongly recommends the use of its TeX template (click here). All TeX related files should be submitted to the journal, such as the .bib, .sty, and .bst files.
References should be supplied in standard IMA format using \bibitem and the bibliography environment.
Authors are asked to use the LaTeX tags like \ref, \cite, etc., for the automatic referencing to figures, tables, reference citations, etc. If these are not used, the manuscript will be held up in acceptance and pre-production stages.
Authors of accepted papers will be asked to provide the LATEX source files of their paper. In preparing the paper, please use the standard article.cls file and when sending the source file for submission, please ensure that all the macros used to write your paper accompany the manuscript. Please do not forget to send your accompanying .bib or .bst files with your main .tex file.
Please carefully follow all of the usual instructions to authors as detailed above however, text width should be set to 30 picas (126mm) and the page depth to 46 picas (195mm). It is very important that your references follow the correct referencing system (further information can be found above).
Submissions of manuscripts in Word format
Manuscripts can also be submitted using Microsoft Word, however please note this journal does not accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents at this time. Please use Word's "Save As" option to save your document as an older (.doc) file type.
Preparing your manuscript
Format: The title page should include the name, affiliation and address of each author, and a short abstract. Each section, including the introduction, should be numbered, with equations numbered, for example (2.1), (2.2), etc. Nonstandard notation should be explained in the text, and footnotes should be avoided.
Figures: Prepare your figures at publication quality resolution, using applications capable of generating high-resolution files (800 d.p.i. for line drawings and 300 d.p.i. for colour and half-tone artwork). The printing process requires your figures to be in this format if your paper is accepted and printed. For useful information on preparing your figures for publication, go to http://cpc.cadmus.com/da. Prepare any other files that are to be submitted for review, including any supplementary material.
Style: For specific information regarding style, please refer to the IMA style guide.
LANGUAGE EDITING
Particularly if English is not your first language, before submitting your manuscript you may wish to have it edited for language. This is not a mandatory step, but may help to ensure that the academic content of your paper is fully understood by journal editors and reviewers. Language editing does not guarantee that your manuscript will be accepted for publication. If you would like information about one such service please click here. There are other specialist language editing companies that offer similar services and you can also use any of these. Authors are liable for all costs associated with such services.
AUTHOR SELF-ARCHIVING/PUBLIC ACCESS POLICY
For information about this journal's policy, please visit our Author Self-Archiving policy page.
OPEN ACCESS OPTION FOR AUTHORS
Mathematical Medicine and Biologyauthors have the option to publish their paper under the Oxford Open initiative; whereby, for a charge, their paper will be made freely available online immediately upon publication. After your manuscript is accepted the corresponding author will be required to accept a mandatory licence to publish agreement. As part of the licensing process you will be asked to indicate whether or not you wish to pay for open access. If you do not select the open access option, your paper will be published with standard subscription-based access and you will not be charged.
If you choose the Open Access option you can pay the Open Access charges using our Author Services site. This will enable you to pay online with a credit/debit card, or request an invoice by email or post. Open access charges can be viewed here in detail; discounted rates are available for authors based in some developing countries (click here for a list of qualifying countries). Please note that these charges are in addition to any colour charges that may apply.
Orders from the UK will be subject to the current UK VAT charge. For orders from the rest of the European Union, OUP will assume that the service is provided for business purposes. Please provide a VAT number for yourself or your institution and ensure you account for your own local VAT correctly.
For orders from the rest of the EU, we will assume that the service is provided for business purposes, please provide a VAT number for yourself or your institution and ensure you account for your own local VAT correctly.
