Typescripts must be in English and should not exceed 10,000 words. Authors should not submit manuscripts that are under consideration for publication elsewhere. All typescripts will be assessed by academic referees. Authors are invited to submit contributions electronically as email attachments or on disk. Typescripts employing diacritics for transliteration should be submitted in hard copy as well, with an indication of the software used. Authors should reserve one complete copy of their typescript, as hard copies will not be returned in the event that an article is not accepted.
2. PREPARATION OF TYPESCRIPT
Please provide a title page indicating the article title, author's full name (in the form preferred for publication), and author's affiliation (including mailing address and email address). Typescript pages should be numbered consecutively. Spelling, capitalization, and punctuation must be consistent within each article.
3. ILLUSTRATIONS
Include copies of any figures or halftone illustrations within the typescript: do not submit original artwork. Upon an article's acceptance, editorial staff at the Journal will be in touch with information regarding how best to supply originals.
4. TABLES
Tables should be comprehensible without reference to the text. Type each on a separate sheet and indicate the approximate position in the text with a marginal note.
5. PROOFS
All articles accepted for publication will be copy-edited and proofread. Copy-edited typescripts of articles and reviews will be sent to authors; this represents the final opportunity for authors to make corrections or amendments to their work, as proofs are not circulated to authors.
6. LOANWORDS AND FOREIGN WORDS
Foreign words accepted in English usage should be spelled in accordance with the New Oxford Dictionary of English or the Concise Oxford Dictionary. Other foreign words must follow the transliteration system shown in the table at the back of the Journal.
7. REFERENCES
Article references should be numbered consecutively throughout and appear as footnotes. As Journal articles have no separate bibliographies, all references should contain name of the author, full title of book or article, place and year of publication, and page reference. Cited unpublished material should have full location reference. Book reviews do not have footnotes.
8. COPYRIGHT
It is a condition of publication in the Journal that authors grant an exclusive licence to the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently, and will allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that the Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication and Oxford University Press is notified in writing and in advance.
9. OFFPRINTS
Authors will receive twenty-five offprints of each article free of charge, as well as free access to the online version of their article. Authors may buy further offprints at reasonable prices. An order form and scale of charges will be sent with each proof. The form should be completed and returned together with the payment to Journals Production Department, Oxford University Press, Great Clarendon Street, Oxford OX2 6DP UK. Orders from the UK will be subject to a 17.5% VAT charge. For orders from elsewhere in the EU you or your institution should account for VAT by way of a reverse charge. Please provide us with your or your institution’s VAT number.
10. REVIEWS
Books for review should be sent to the editorial address given above.
