The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Cancer Center is recruiting an Associate Director for Cancer Prevention and Population Science. The Associate Director reports to the Cancer Center Director and is a member of the Cancer Center Senior Management Team.
This program consists of members from the School of Public Health, College of Nursing, College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy, and the College of Liberal Arts and Science. Areas of research strength include: 1) behavioral risk factors such as obesity and tobacco use; 2) policy research and health system interventions; 3) quality of life and survivorship in cancer patients; 4) health disparities; 5) chemoprevention and biomarker development; and 6) cancer screening and early detection. Components of this active program include a P50 Center for Population Health and Health Disparities, an R25T Cancer Education and Career Development Training Program, a P01 in Social Emotional Contexts of Adolescent Smoking Patterns, and at least nine NIH funded research projects.
Specific responsibilities include: i) program oversight to assure effective focus, interactions, cohesion, and productive scientific collaborations; ii) program evaluation and enhancement; iii) recruitment of new investigators; iv) resource allocation within the program; v) preparation of the Cancer Prevention and Population Science Program component of the Cancer Center’s application for an NCI Cancer Center Support Grant, and vi) serving as a key advisor to the Director in shaping the center’s direction and achieving its overall goals.
The successful candidate must have PhD or MD with minimum of 7 years of experience. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are required to advance interdisciplinary and translational cancer research among faculty members in UIC’s six health sciences colleges. The candidate will have a strong record of grant support and publications in a field related to cancer prevention and population science. Academic rank will be determined based upon the candidate’s credentials and experience and academic home will be in the most appropriate health related college of UIC.
