JNCI Editor-in-Chief

Applications are invited for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI).

The JNCI publishes peer-reviewed original research from around the world and is internationally acclaimed as the source for the most up-to-date news and information from the rapidly changing fields of cancer research and treatment. For a number of years, the JNCI has been ranked as one of the most-cited original-research cancer journals by the Institute of Scientific Information in its annual Journal Citation Reports. JNCI is published twice monthly by Oxford University Press and is not affiliated with the United States National Cancer Institute.

JNCI uses an online manuscript submission and peer review system, and daily editorial processes are performed and managed by the OUP, JNCI staff. The Editor-in-Chief assesses all manuscript submissions and assigns suitable material to Associate Editors who are experts in the field. The Editor-in-Chief also assesses news content, oversees JNCI Monographs content, and leads JNCI Editorial Board meetings.

The current Editor-in-Chief will step down at the end of June, 2012.Oxford University Press plans to appoint a new Editor who will uphold the reputation, improve and maintain the ranking of JNCI in the oncology community. Applications are invited from scientists working in epidemiology, public health, basic/translational research, clinical research, or cancer prevention. Nominations from the oncology community are also welcome. Candidates must be recognized in the oncology community and have an extensive scientific publication record.

The successful candidate will begin as Editor-in-Chief on July 1, 2012. There will be a transition period during 2012 when the candidate can shadow the current Editor-in-Chief. The term is five years, with the possibility of an extension by mutual agreement. The successful candidate will receive an honorarium.

Candidates should submit their CV, along with a cover letter describing their vision and plans for the Journal after reviewing the Responsibilities of the JNCI Editor-in-chief job description and complete the Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form.
