Appointment of Editor/Co-editors (from July 1st 2010) - Readvertisement

The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) and the Editorial Board of The British Journal of Social Work are seeking to appoint an editor or co-editors to replace the current editors, Eric Blyth and Helen Masson, whose term of appointment ends on 30 June 2010. In conjunction with members of the Editorial Board, BASW and OUP, the responsibilities of the post holder(s) include:

• Overseeing and ensuring the timely delivery of the journal in 8 issues per year, with support from the journal administrator;
• Chairing and leading the work of the twice yearly Editorial Board meetings, held in Oxford;
• Liaising with authors, reviewers and the US Associate Editor over the peer review of manuscripts as required and making decisions on manuscripts;
• Liaising with the journal book reviews editor;
• Liaising and consultation with the journal’s international editorial advisors as appropriate;
• Representing the BJSW at national and international conferences and other events as agreed by the Board, BASW and OUP.

A budget to assist with the administration associated with the post is available and a small honorarium is payable.

Applicants, who will be leaders in their field, must themselves have published extensively. In addition, they must be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of social work theory, practice and research methods as well as a commitment to anti-oppressive principles and practice. Previous substantial experience of review and editorial work is essential. The formal appointment will be made by BASW, on the recommendation of the Journal’s Editorial Board, who will interview all short-listed candidates at its meeting in July 2009. The editor(s) will be required to be members of BASW.
