Special Themed Issue
The M in STEM
In recent times the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Agenda has come very much to the fore. In the UK, the Government is prioritising STEM courses in HE for additional places and is actively promoting STEM activities in schools; the university funding bodies have initiated a major £21 million National HE-STEM Programme.
All STEM disciplines rely to a greater or lesser extent on mathematics. Teaching Mathematics and Its Applications therefore proposes to publish a special themed edition in 2011 focused on “The M in STEM”. In particular, for this issue, we would welcome papers which focus on issues relating to the integration of the teaching of mathematics with at least one, and preferably more, other STEM disciplines.
In order to meet publication schedules, the closing date for receipt of papers to be considered for the special themed edition is 30 November 2010. Papers should be submitted in the usual way using the online submission system at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/teamat. To indicate that the paper is intended for this special themed edition, please include the phrase “The M in STEM” at the start of the title of your manuscript. This will not be included in the title of articles that are published in the themed edition; it will simply serve as a flag for the editors.
Papers on this subject will be welcome after 30 November 2010; however these will appear in normal editions of the the journal alongside papers on other topics.
