Online Submission Instructions
Toxicological Sciences offers authors high-quality print and online publication. To ensure rapid and efficient publication, please follow the step-by-step instructions below.
Upon submission of a manuscript, it is understood that: (1) All authors have made a significant contribution to the paper and share responsiblity for it. (2) All authors have read and approved the final version submitted, and the final version has been approved by the institution where the work was carried out. (3) The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under consideration elsewhere. (4) Any potential conflict of interest has been disclosed to the Editor.
PREPARING YOUR MANUSCRIPT
- Follow the journal's instructions to authors regarding the format and preparation of your manuscript, available on the journal’s web site under Manuscript Preparation Guidelines.
- When naming your files, please use simple file names and avoid special characters and spaces. If you are a Macintosh user you must type the three-letter extension at the end of the file name you choose (e.g. .doc, .rtf, .tif, .pdf).
SUBMITTING YOUR MANUSCRIPT
Now that your files are ready, visit the online submission site located at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/toxsci.
- First, you will need to log in to the system.
- If you have submitted or reviewed a manuscript on this system before and know your log-in details, use your user ID and password to log in.
- If you do not know your log-in details, check to see if you are already registered by entering your email address into the Password Help field. If an account does not currently exist for you, you can register by clicking on the Create Account tab at the top of the log-in screen and following the instructions on the screen.
- If you have trouble finding manuscripts or experience other problems with your account, do not create another account. Please contact customer support (see Getting Help below).
- To submit a new manuscript, go to the Author Center, click the blue star and follow the on-screen instructions. There are seven screens which must be completed. You can move between steps by clicking the screen numbers on the left side of the pages. To return to a submission in progress, find the manuscript title in the Unsubmitted Manuscripts list in your Author Center and click Continue Submission. You may want to have the original word-processing file available so that you can copy and paste the title and abstract into the required fields.
IMPORTANT: The system does time out, so do not pause during tasks you are completing without saving.
All files (with the exception of Supplementary Data) will be combined into one PDF for the review process. You will be able to adjust the order of the files that have been loaded prior to actually submitting the paper. If your article is accepted, the PDF file will be released publicly on Toxicological Sciences Advance Access.
- When you are satisfied with the uploaded manuscript, click the Submit button. It is not until this button is clicked that the manuscript and all of the associated information (i.e., contributing authors, institutions, etc.) are linked together and the manuscript is given a manuscript number. If there are any fields that were missed, red error messages will appear on screen seven. Click on the screen number on the left of the page to go back and fill in the missing information. Once the manuscript is submitted it is not possible for an author to undo the submission.
- After the manuscript has been submitted you will receive an e-mail confirmation stating that your manuscript was successfully submitted. This message will also contain the assigned manuscript number, which is used in all correspondence. If you do not receive this message, your manuscript will not have been successfully submitted to the journal and cannot progress to peer review.
- If you return to your Author Center you will notice that your newly submitted manuscript can be found in the Submitted Manuscript area. Among the information listed there, the Processing Status section provides information on the status of your manuscript as it moves through the review process.
SUBMITTING A REVISED MANUSCRIPT
If you are advised by an editor that your original manuscript may be considered in revised form, prepare the revision (as directed in the Manuscript Preparation Guidelines) and your response to the editor and referees, then proceed as follows.
- Log in to your Author Center on the Manuscript Central Web site as before, and locate the manuscript in the Revised Manuscripts in Draft area. Click Continue Submission.
- On the first screen, you will be able to View and Respond to Decision Letter. You may copy (highlight, CTRL+C) and paste (highlight, CTRL+V) your response from a prepared document into the text areas.
- Make any necessary changes to the submission forms and proceed to load any revised files (first deleting the original version of any files that were revised) as well as a word-processor document highlighted to show changes for re-review.
IMPORTANT: If your paper is accepted, your images will be required as high-resolution .tif or .eps files (600 d.p.i. for line drawings and 300 d.p.i. for color and halftone artwork; graphs created in PowerPoint may be submitted as .ppt files) or high-quality printouts on glossy paper. Please note that publication of your manuscript will not proceed until figures suitable for reproduction are received.
